Cars in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
