Why this DNC Refuses to Release its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

The decision by the DNC to withhold the public viewing regarding its own autopsy report concerning the 2024 election seems stunning yet entirely predictable. Averse to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus operates closer to a PR firm rather than an electoral entity focused on building local power for winning elections.

An Environment Resistant to Internal Critique

Reluctant to depart from the prevailing attitude of conformity, the committee has stayed under that legacy throughout 2025. Making public an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether party leaders are interested to foster honest conversation about the strategic failures which allowed the former president to become president again. Yet, the committee is acting under the pretense that there are no lessons to understand following the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," an explanation reportedly given to justify concealing the report.

Key Issues an Analysis Could Have Examined

An autopsy report of substance would confront key points of failure. These include:

  • Electoral Disenchantment: Failing to retain of millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive during the tight recent race.
  • The Decision to Seek Re-election: The stubborn decision by the incumbent to seek re-election, and a very late withdrawal, is viewed as denying Democratic voters of open primaries.
  • Losing Touch With the Working-Class Base: Amid rising costs, the electoral effort is criticized for bowing to elite contributors and not managing to confront the impact of corporate greed.
  • A Gaza Impact: An unwillingness to reconsider an approach regarding a ongoing war allegedly caused losing significant blocs, notably among youth voters, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Young Voter Allegiance: Extensive evidence demonstrates a significant drop-off of Democratic support from the youth electorate.

A Record Shunning Scrutiny

Choosing secrecy is consistent with a pattern of evading difficult realities. It recalls an episode where virtually every Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's decision for seeking another term until a disastrous televised debate compelled a change.

At the same time, a significant majority of the electorate had been repeatedly informing researchers that they did not want the incumbent to run again.

Financial Concerns

An honest analysis would also probe matters regarding financial allocations, including how much money went to insider consultants as well as ad buyers over the course of an electoral effort which expended a colossal amount during the general election.

A Broader Problem

Fundamentally, the suppression of the official autopsy points to a submission to party leaders responsible for an unsuccessful electoral effort. The message for the party's base – which includes countless loyal volunteers – is that they do not be trusted to understand the lessons party chiefs claim to have learned from hundreds of interviews drawing from extensive interviews.

A party unable to honestly assess its mistakes is unlikely to break free from the cycle that ended up being so beneficial to the winning candidate.
